The oldest part of the winery, located in the centre of Bürgstadt, dates back to 1563. At that time, winegrowing was an integral part of the mixed agricultural business, which has always been owned by the family. In the last 50 years, the family has increasingly turned to the cultivation of red wine: from 1980 onwards, the business has expanded and in 1996 a new wine cellar was built, which adjoins the old vaulted cellar.
At present, 2 generations look after the winery together:
Peter and Burkhard Hench, as the main managers, share the work in the vineyard and cellar, and are actively supported by their wives (Ramona and Helene).
We decide when our grapes are harvested according to aroma and taste.
The harvest takes place by hand with many hard-working helpers, followed by gentle processing in the winery.
Red wines are traditionally mash fermented and matured in oak barrels of different sizes. Pinot Blanc R, Blanc de Noirs and Silvaner R are also aged in wooden barrels.
These wines undergo spontaneous malolactic fermentation and are given the necessary time and rest to develop on the yeast. This is how they find their own harmony.
However, friends of fresh white wines are not neglected either, because we also offer young wines from stainless steel tanks.
